New twist in Fyre Festival saga as comeback event postponed
Ja Rule and Billy McFarland in Netflix’s Fyre Festival documentary (Netflix)
Fyre Festival 2, organised by convicted fraudster Billy McFarland, has been postponed indefinitely just weeks before it was scheduled to kick off.
Ticket holders have been issued refunds. A new date is yet to be announced.
The festival, to be held in Isla Mujeres, Mexico from the end of May, faced controversy from the start, with local officials denying knowledge of the event.
McFarland, who served four years in prison for fraud relating to the disastrous 2017 Fyre Festival, was attempting a comeback with this event.
Tickets ranged from US$1,400 to $25,000, with premium packages costing up to $1.1 million.
