Zelda Switch 2 Edition games do not appear to support cloud saves
It seems as though the Switch 2 Editions of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom will not support cloud saves. That means it seems players will not be able to backup their save files.
A disclaimer on the official Nintendo pages for both games said: "Please note: this software does not support the Nintendo Switch Online paid membership's Save Data Cloud backup feature."
This disclaimer is only on the US and EU store pages though and not on Japan’s. That still says the feature is available.
Other games with Switch 2 Editions do not have this disclaimer. To be clear, players will still be able to import their save file from the original Switch but then won’t be able to create a new cloud file as they progress. That applies to brand new Switch 2 Edition save files too.
Once there’s more from Nintendo we will update you.
UK stock check update
Still nothing on the UK Nintendo Switch 2 stock front unfortunately! But as soon as anything comes up, we’ll have you covered.
'Drop the price' comments returned with a vengeance
Nintendo of America’s stream ended up having comments enabled throughout and, once again, it was flooded with ‘drop the price’ comments. There were only really a handful of comments about what was being shown among other satirical comments about pricing.
Mario Kart World Direct: Free Roam mode
The big focus going into Mario Kart World Direct was always going to be on the Free Roam mode. And, in all honesty, it felt a little bit underwhelming.
In Free Roam mode, players can drive through and eat at Yoshi's Diner where new outfits can be selected. There are loads of different pitstops and food to check out.
Players can go across the whole game map. There are P switches where players have to hit them to start missions by collecting coins. This helps to hone driving ability.
There are also hidden coins, hidden panels and loads more, with Nintendo encouraging exploration. Photo mode can be used whenever too.
It’s understandable that Nintendo wants to encourage players to explore and find things out on their own without giving too much away. But this did feel a little light on features other than exploring and completing similar missions in different locations.
Mario Kart World Direct headlines
The Mario Kart World Direct has just concluded and a few new features have been revealed. Eight courses were shown, including five new ones (Mario Bros Circuit, Crown City, Salty Salty Speedway, Starview Peak and Boo Cinema) and three returning courses (Toad’s Factory, Peach Beach and Wario’s Shipyard).
It seems there are seven different Grands Prix across the game world at launch and players have to drive between each circuit. A 'certain colourful course' will appear if gold is obtained in all Grands Prix, hinting at Rainbow Road.
New items include coin shell, ice flower, hammer, mega mushroom, feather and Kamek.. There are new tricks too such as charge jump and rewind.
Now, onto Free Roam mode...
Mario Kart World Nintendo Direct about to start
Mario Kart World Direct is about to start (2pm). We’ll have updates from the stream that’s on Nintendo’s official channels as they happen.
It’s expected to last around 15 minutes where new gameplay features and details about the Switch 2 exclusive will be revealed.
Switch 2 UK stock check update
It doesn't make for the best reading at the moment I’m afraid - but all UK retailers are currently still out of Nintendo Switch 2 console stock. That includes the console itself and Mario Kart World bundle.
We’ll keep you updated the moment stock becomes available.
Cyberpunk studio lead refuses to comment on The Witcher 3 Switch 2 upgrade
CD Projekt Red, the studio behind Cyberpunk 2077 which is releasing on Nintendo Switch 2, refused to say if The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be getting an upgrade too. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is already available on the original Nintendo Switch.
But when asked by Eurogamer, CD Projekt Red's gameplay technical design expert Filip Downar skirted around the issue. He said the studio is “all in” on Cyberpunk 2077 at the moment.
“We were happy with how that game [The Witcher 3] was received by players so, when we heard about the more powerful Nintendo Switch 2, we immediately thought it would be the perfect platform for Cyberpunk 2077,” he said.
